I'm Christianne Hedtke, a TV writer best known for my work on CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA for Netflix. But I’ve recently expanded into directing, which is why I’m asking for your help. I’m raising $40,000 to produce my second short film, SUPERCONSCIOUS, inspired by the CIA’s psychic spy program. I’ve attached RIVERDALE’s NATALIE BOLTT to star, and all donations are fully tax deductible!
Set in 1973, against an energy crisis, a Cold War, and the dawn of the Age of Aquarius, SUPERCONSCIOUS follows CYBIL S as she joins the REMOTE VIEWING PROGRAM, a scientific study on “psi energy.” She participates under the guidance of HARVEY T, a “psi” scholar who leads clairvoyant experiments that become increasingly troublesome. But both seers have ulterior motives--they will each use the study to seek out their own answers, and test the limits of what can be discovered with psi.
I was initially inspired by the CIA’s use of clairvoyance as a means of spy craft, but as a person with diminished sight, I was further driven to explore themes around vision, second sight, and our inherent blind spots.
Apart from writing on SABRINA, I’ve been a fellow of the Warner Bros. TV Writers Workshop (2018), the Sundance Episodic Story Lab (2015), and Gotham Week (2016). As a director, I was a semi-finalist for AFI’s prestigious Directing Women’s Workshop (2022).
I plan to shoot over 4 days at a cabin in MN later this year, with the vast majority of that $40k going to my production budget: camera rental, equipment, and meals, lodging, and wages for my crew.
And we're building an incredible team! Nathalie Boltt will star. Best known for playing Penelope Blossom on the CW’s RIVERDALE, Nat is an incredible talent and director in her own right. Our cinematographer, Thomas Schwingle, has an amazing eye for visuals. He shot my first film, THE ALKONOST which premiered at the Mpls-St. Paul Int'l Film Festival (2023). He's also lensed videos for the Foo Fighters, among many other award-winning shorts, music videos, and commercials.
When the film is finished, I hope to screen SUPERCONSCIOUS at film festivals, add it to a growing body of work, and use it as proof of concept for my original voice as a creator.
I know there are more causes than ever to support, but here is a FULLY TAX DEDUCTIBLE opportunity to support women filmmakers and bring filmmaking to rural communities. Any amount you have to offer is greatly appreciated!
