Dena Shottenkirk's talkPOPc: (Philosophers' Ontological Party club)

About

talkPOPc (Philosophers' Ontological Party club) was founded by Dena Shottenkirk, who is both a philosopher and an artist. Realizing that both philosophy and art are just conversation, Shottenkirk conceived of the project as an examination of how thought is constructed. It is topic-centered, and begins with her thoughts on a topic (both visually and in writing), but importantly it then extends out to the thoughts of others. It does this by having talkPOPc team members go out into the world as ask, “what do you think about this topic?”

Thus, talkPOPc stages one-to-one, focused conversations between a philosopher and a participant. Our mission is to give ordinary, everyday people a chance to develop their own thoughts on particular topics.By pairing a philosopher with a participant, talkPOPc provides a setting where the philosopher can gently guide the conversation and provide genuine listening. These conversations then change how the participant thinks and the opinions they share with others. Begun in 2012, talkPOPc has held hundreds of conversations.

Change happens because people talk.
