About

DYAN DITOLLA GREY
MISSION STATEMENT:

My sculpture depicts humanity and the relationship of humans and the Devine.
Specifically, I've conceptualized the project in three parts: the parallel human experiences
of devastation and hope, the relationship of the spiritual and human life, and the emotional
experience of the Blessed Mother. Historically these feelings have been ignored.
My sculpture challenges this universal attitude towards women's emotions. Changing the template from suppression to one of great emotional depth.
The sculpture cites are places for connection and prayer for all denominations.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

I-The human events and response: Sixty foot rods represent the events that impact our lives. These include global, political, environmental and personal trauma. Figurative sculptures depict the emotional impact on the human condition as a response to these events.

II-The Parallel between the Divine and the human: A seated, bearded, older man represents the Divine. Standing behind him and leaning on the chair is a nude contemporary woman. This represents the struggle as well as the connection of the spiritual and the human life. Other sculptures depict people in their particular relationship with spirituality.

III-The Divine showing human emotions: What were the emotions that the Blessed Mother of Christ experienced after his brutal death? Would her feelings differ from other mothers who witness their son being killed? Historically, these feelings have been blatantly missed. A sculpture of the Blessed Mother and Christ will give homage to her feelings. Additional sculptures will illustrate women having life experiences that resonate with Mary’s emotions.

The emotions of the Blessed Mother are human emotions. She has historically been portrayed as
serene and contemplative. She often has the same expression with Christ as an infant as with his death. The horror of her son, being assassinated is not depicted on her face or in her posture.
