About

The Acoustic Guitar Project was created to inspire musicians around the world to write more original music.

Here’s how it works:

We give an acoustic guitar and a handheld recorder to a musician. They have one week to write an original song and record it live. No editing on the computer is allowed. The musician has to record the song as many times as needed to get the take they like. It’s all about the songwriting process.

When the musician is finished, they sign the guitar and take a picture with it. Then, they record a video talking about what happened during the week that they had the guitar and/or what inspired their song.

The guitar passes on to the next musician and the process is repeated. After five musicians have completed their songs, there’s a concert and every artist tells a story about their experience and plays their song. Every season five new artists are added to the project. Musicians can only participate once.

Every city that participates in the project has it’s own dedicated guitar, and the project has guitars in nearly 50 cities around the world. More than 500 original songs have been written for the project.
