About

The Angle Project (TAP) is a Chicago based theatrical production company and a performance art initiative that helps imagine, embody, and materialize possibilities for displaced and multicultural communities.

The Angle Project’s mission is to employ theatre to build, integrate, and strengthen communities.

We believe that theatre is a unique one of a kind medium that gives control over a narrative and brings people together to dialogue and collaborate through empathy.

TAP pursues four directions in its work: artistic excellence, activism, community building, and research.

We are dedicated to producing professional theatre that challenges cultural borders, transfers social and political contexts, and reflects the world of today.

Our process oriented, participant-driven workshops and community programs offer an opportunity to reflect, learn, and grow.

By utilizing forum theatre, theatre of the oppressed, image theatre, role play, improvisation, devising, interactive theatre games, scene work, creative writing, and working with culturally specific texts and visual resources such as videos, photographs, and other art works, the participants use aesthetic distance to choose a comfortable level of exposure to communicate safely and openly, and think objectively.

Ultimately, our workshops encourage the creation of new narratives that inspire to take positive and productive actions to improve individual lives, form new alliances, and strengthen communities.

Lastly, by collecting, evaluating, and synthesizing project data we contribute to arts research, help our partners deepen the relationship with the communities they serve, and enhance the efficacy of our work.
