About

We are providing a space where individuals facing mental health struggles, along with their loved ones can find solace, expression, and healing through art. Rather than focusing on crisis, The Art Way centers on well-being, providing a supportive community where creativity becomes a bridge to serenity and hope. The long term goal of The Art Way is to be a financially sustainable endeavor that can support the retention of experienced artists, trained open studio facilitators, and art materials that will meet the needs of 15-30 monthly participants. The Art Way's goal is to respond to the increased need of mental health and wellness for adults living in San Antonio and  will meet on a monthly basis, the second Friday of each month. Each meeting will include an hour-long artist led skill building lesson followed by two hours of an art therapy informed open studio process. We tackle the challenges of isolation and mental health struggles by offering this safe, compassionate space where creativity becomes the cornerstone of healing. Through guided artistic learning and our Open Studio Process, we provide adults with an opportunity to explore self-expression, foster personal growth, and build meaningful connections. Our program is designed to be accessible to everyone—no prior art experience is necessary—empowering individuals to rediscover hope and joy through the transformative power of art. By uniting professional guidance, community support, and creative exploration, The Art Way serves as a catalyst for self- discovery and long-term well-being, turning artistic expression into a journey of healing and empowerment. We are joining experienced artists, professional therapists, university art directors and professors with members of the San Antonio community together in one humble environment where creativity meets learning and creations lead to hope and healing. We have had monthly meetings since September 2024 where there have been fifteen to twenty five participants each time. Each month we have grown with schools and health organizations bringing their students and interns to participate. Opportunities to expand have become possible and we hope to become mobile so we could bring The Art Way experience to Day Habilitation Centers, homeless centers and various community organizations serving the public in need.
