"The Boogie Down Gospel" is a re-imagining of the Gospel of Matthew, set in modern day in the South Bronx with all LatinX characters portraying the famous Biblical Characters.
Using hip hop, salsa, dance and ballads, the Book of Mathew is told in a funny and moving way with music often associated with the urban LatinX community.
The play maintains and promotes the central themes of love, compassion, forgiveness and peace that are central to the Biblical narrative, and yet it does so in a way that the LatinX community can relate to more directly by depicting themselves and their own realities on the stage.
