Bronx Film 48 is a filmmaking initiative launched by four Bronx filmmakers: Ayaris Perez, Christine Garmendiz, Edwin Torres, and Greg Hernandez. Our mission is to increase the number of filmmakers in the Bronx by fostering a safe space that facilitates diversity, peer-to-peer networking opportunities, experimentation and exploration of craft. We believe one of the best ways to learn how to make films, is by making and watching films. We're in our second year now. Each year our main attraction is 48 hour film challenge. In this challenge teams come together to compete against one another by writing, producing, filming, editing, acting in, and composing one short film, between 3 and 7 minutes in length in the Bronx in 48 hours.
Whether you're using a video camera or your smartphone, our 48 hour film challenge provides a mechanism for your original ideas in film to flourish. This grows the number of independent films made in the Bronx. Our filmmaking initiative strips away the word "aspiring" from the lexicon of Bronx filmmakers.
Through the screening of works by filmmakers who participate in our challenge in public places in the Bronx, providing a platform for participants to field questions during Q & A sessions, interviewing participants afterward so they can begin to feel comfortable with the idea of a career in the film industry, and encouraging participants to distribute their work to festivals and community television outlets, we’re building aspirations. We’re inspiring those within our community.
