Bronx Film 48, is a community film initiative established in 2019. Our mission it to elevate the cinema palette of the Bronx by increasing the number of films made here as well as the filmmakers.

We enhance the film scene by connecting filmmakers and providing free and low-cost workshops, networking events, career building seminars, local film screenings and an annual 48 hour film challenge all facilitated in the Bronx.

The Bronx does not have a robust film scene. We're changing that and bridge the gap.

Bronx Film 48 Accomplishments Since 2019

Year 1 (2019)

- Bronx Film 48 hosted two networking events consecutively. 

- One networking event at the Dreamyard Project.

- One networking event at the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center (MMCC)

- Created the 1st Annual Bronx 48 Hour Film Challenge

- Hosted a Kick Off Event at The Bronx Documentary Center

- Held a Screening and Q/A of six short films made for the film challenge at Bronx Documentary Center

-  Delivered award certificates to the challenge winners at the conclusion of the screening
- Screened the six short films on BronxNet (A local public community news channel)

Year 2 (2020)

- Organized a second Networking Event held at the new Dreamyard’s Bx Start space in the  Bronx. Celebrated our largest turn out of Roughly 100 attendee
- Hosted periodic virtual community Check-in on Zoom to help filmmakers cope in the early days of the Covid-19 Pandemic
- Organized the Second Annual Bronx 48 Hour Film Challenge. (Indoor Edition) Filmmakers were required to participate in their own homes for safety in the Covid-19 Pandemic
- Increased the number of distributed Awards & Prizes, including a cash prize, equipment, lighting workshop at 10x10 Studios (A local Bronx business) and a 8 hour studio rental at JMR Studios in Brooklyn
- Hosted a virtual resume workshop for filmmakers and creatives on zoom with HR expert Joanna Giordano
- Screened the 12 short films on BronxNet (A local public community news channel)

Year 3 (2021)

- Organized and hosted two hybrid screenwriting workshop at the BX Start space and our headquarters space Circle of Dreams

- Launched the third Annual 48 Hour Film Challenge, back with set locations to film in The Bronx.
- Increased the cash prize, number of awards to include RED Komodo rental, audio and camera equipment and screening to the Skyline drive-in in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

- Hosted our first ever outdoor screening at Sun, Wind, and Shade Oasis Garden, of the submitted films from the 3rd 48 Hour Film Challenge.
- Screened the five short films on BronxNet (A local public community news channel)
- Won the City Artists Corps Grant 
- Hosting an indoor screening at the Andrew Freedman Home in the Bronx

Year 4 Plans (2022)

Raise $20,000 to organize the following:

 - A beta test of an outdoor screening series in the Bronx

- A screening of independent feature films and local short films on the rooftop of the Andrew Freeman Home (One weekend Summer 2022)

-A Drive-in Screening at the Orchard Beach parking lot, and/or at the Bronx Zoo Parking Lot (One weekend Summer 2022)

-A free public screening at Joyce Kilmer Park,  Williamsbridge Oval Park and Soundview Park (One weekend Summer 2022)

- Hybrid Screenwriting club, where filmmakers join together on a bi-weekly basis to discuss written screenplays.

- The 4th Annual 48 Hour Film Challenge

- Our Annual Bronx Filmmaker Networking Event

Join us in raising $20K to bring an outdoor film festival to the Bronx in 2022.
Imagine rooftop, drive-in and park screenings across the borough showcasing independent films and films made by its locals.
