The Cat Museum of New York City is dedicated to educating the public about issues related to cats, cat rescue, and cat care in New York City, primarily through art exhibitions, as well as special events.
Currently, we host pop-up cultural and educational events combining cats and the arts and connecting the community of cat lovers. Our first two pop-up events in
May 2024 and
November 2024 were sold out, demonstrating NYC’s need for a cultural institution dedicated to cats and the people who rescue and care for them.
We also plan to develop an NYC-based brick-and-mortar space for the museum. There, we will host visual arts exhibits featuring mostly contemporary artists from New York and all around the world whose subject matter is cats (and many of these artists have rescue cats and/or are involved in cat rescue), as well as exhibits about the history of the relationship between cats and humans.
Visitors to CMNYC exhibits and events will learn about cat care and cat rescue.
We will provide humane education through art, educational resources, and events/
programming. Our goals are to:
- inspire the current and next generation of veterinary professionals, pet cat owners, and cat rescuers (thereby lessening the burden of the cat overpopulation crisis affecting New York City residents and municipal and independent organizations)
- connect cat lovers in a physical/virtual space through cultural exhibitions, events, and more
- lift up artists whose artwork features cats as subjects
- promote positive associations with cats and cat lovers for NYC residents and visitors
