THE COMMENCEMENT is a live music and storytelling initiative led by Bernie Brooks Jr., a pianist, vocalist, and educator with 30+ years of experience. Rooted in his journey from Chicago's Cabrini Green housing projects — where he led a traveling youth choir at age 13 — the project delivers live performances, youth workshops, and community-based experiences to diverse audiences across Los Angeles. Through free and low-cost programming and documented media, the work expands access to meaningful arts experiences and fosters connection, creativity, and personal growth.
