Mission:
The Empty Hourglass Project is an non-profit community art initiative for people of all ages affected by trauma, mental illness, abuse, addiction, suicide, and grief to share their stories and art and find healing through creative expression.
What We Do:
The Empty Hourglass Project transforms personal experiences of trauma, grief, and mental health into surreal, collaborative artworks that are reimagined to invite viewers into someone else’s world and allow them to witness each story through a compassionate visual lens, while also providing a safe space to discuss mental health and wellness and to use art as a creative outlet for healing. What began as a published book of images paired with subjects’ stories in a diary-esque format (50 Lives/50 Truths: Reimagined Through Art - Volume 1) expanded into two immersive exhibitions, and is now evolving into a traveling art gallery and workshop series designed to bring these conversations and creative tools directly into communities.
How Your Support Helps:
Funds raised will go towards:
*The revamping of a traveling art gallery trolley (that's all about mental health!)
*Art therapy workshops and exhibits designed to encourage self-expression and promote healing for those affected by trauma, loss, addiction, and/or mental illness.
*Volume 2 of 50 Lives/50 Truths: Reimagined Through Art. True stories of trauma, loss, and triumph shared with us by friends, family, and strangers and retold through conceptual photography.
*An eventual permanent art therapy center to offer all the creative workshops, exhibits, and healing events we can muster to any person who needs it!
Thank you for helping us to get our message out there. It takes a village and we appreciate you showing up!
