THE FACTORY is an immersive show set in Andy Warhol's famous art studio, the Silver Factory.
In 1962, pop artist Andy Warhol rented the 5th floor of an industrial loft in Midtown Manhattan for just $100/year. Warhol invited his artist friends to help “silverize” his new work space, and together they covered the entire studio with tin foil, fractured mirrors, and silver spray paint.
To increase production at the Silver Factory, Warhol invited his friends to hang out at the studio and help him generate his groundbreaking work. The doors to the Factory stayed open day and night, and the studio quickly gained a reputation for it’s “anything goes” ethos and amphetamine-fueled parties.
As Andy’s fame grew, the Factory became the dark playground of a group of artists, drug users, drag queens, socialites, musicians, models and freethinkers - otherwise known as Warhol's Superstars. At the height the Factory's notoriety, Andy was working nearly 24 hours a day. To keep up with the demand, Andy turned his Superstars into “art workers” and the eclectic group filmed Andy's movies, silk screened his paintings, played music, and created the wild atmosphere for which the Factory became legendary.
In THE FACTORY the audience is invited to experience a night at Andy Warhol's Factory. The show is an immersive reimagining of what happened within the silver walls of the famous studio - from the moment the Factory opened its doors in 1962 until radical feminist Valerie Solanas ended the party by shooting Andy Warhol in 1968.
THE FACTORY is a "choose your own adventure" experience. The audience has complete freedom to explore the space and help the characters produce Andy’s art. Audience members can help silkscreen paintings, sit for Screen Tests, film scenes for a movie, and listen to the band. As the audience and the cast work together to create original art, the story of the Andy Warhol's Factory unfolds around them.
