On December 31, 1977, Faith Hubley decided to draw a self-portrait before writing in her journal and she continued doing so every day, until days before her death in 2001.

This installation includes six 7-minute loops. Each loop contains 1,400 faces, punctuated by written captions and sketches from the journals and stills and animated clips from Faith's films.

My sister, Georgia Hubley, will provide an original score.

We began work on this in the summer of 2011. All the faces, sketches and stills have been scanned and about half are ready for projection. This year, in order to fully commit, I  have teamed up with producer Linda Moroney  to raise the funds needed to complete the Faith Journal Project within the next two years.

Funds from this campaign will provide for the positioning and cleaning  of the remaining  images, and an extensive editing process - positioning captions and art and creating a rhythmic, surprising mosaic that juxtaposing the many facets of Faith’s work and life.

We have prepared a slew of Faith-related premiums which we hope you will enjoy!

Finally, we will create an app titled Sundays with Faith, which will feature portraits and quotes from 500 Sundays between 1978 and 1988.

PLEASE join the Faith Journal Project community  and spread the word on social media!

    Faith Hubley (1924 – 2001)
was an animator, known for her work both in collaboration with her husband John Hubley, and on her own following his death in 1977.

John and Faith Hubley founded the Hubley Studio, vowing to make one independent film a year. They collaborated on more than 20 short films, including three Oscar-winners.

Faith Hubley made 24 more animated films - one per year until the end of her life. Her films feature abstract imagery and non-linear stories; her focus became both more personal and universal, exploring issues of spirituality,  human rights and the environment. Faith received honors from the Cannes, Venice, London, and San Francisco film festivals, and three  honorary doctorates. She was also a painter, with her works being exhibited in Europe and the United States. The Hubley Collection is archived with The Museum of Modern Art.

Emily Hubley has been making short animated films for almost four decades. Her hand-drawn films explore personal memory and the turbulence of emotional life.

Her feature, The Toe Tactic premiered theatrically at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC in 2009. Her newest short, Faithy, hey, premiered at this year’s Montclair Film Festival and screened at the Provincetown International Film Festival, where Hubley created this year’s bumper, and Animation Block Party at BAM. Her recent, Brainworm Billy (2018), continues to screen at festivals and around the country including (w Faithy, hey) this year’s Short Order program at Alamo Drafthouse Theaters.

She produced Dear Trump Voter (2017) for Inequality Media and has contributed animation to documentary and narrative films including Vessel, Danny Says,  Blue Vinyl and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. She was an animation writer for Roger Ross Williams’  acclaimed Life, Animated and Animation Consultant for Jacob Kornbluth’s documentary, Saving Capitalism.

we are enormously grateful for your support
