This Project's power rests in its ability to transform preconceived notions of separation, isolation and difference; while fostering a sense of connection. This is achieved by creating an intimate space for the community to come together, with 100 local women who said yes to being fully seen and heard in their quiet vulnerability.
Participants are asked to send a message using only their eyes. Each message, preserved in her portrait. There is an intimacy in that message, as the viewer is confronted with its silent power. Next, Participants are asked to share something they wouldn't normally share with a stranger. These shares run deep and illuminate the connective current that binds us all together; Participant to Participant, Participant to Viewer, and Viewer to their networks around the world. When we find ourselves more similar than different, those imaginary walls constructed to create an us-versus-them scenario begin to melt away. We are all one, each having a human experience.
Our mission is to create an opportunity for subtle connection in communities around the globe. The next stop is ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where we have the potential to reach nearly half a million people across the 18 day festival.
