The Fool Volk is an experimental people’s theatre creating original performances, reimagined classics, and theatrical experiences that are playful, rigorous, and alive.
Founded by Harris Singer and Sammy Rivas, The Fool Volk exists because we believe theatre should still surprise us. In an age increasingly shaped by prediction, automation, and certainty, we create spaces where artists and audiences can encounter discovery, imagination, and uncertainty together.
Our work brings together classical training and contemporary experimentation, combining actor-driven performance, visual storytelling, physical expression, comedy, music, and bold theatrical design. We believe experimentation is not a style but instead is a process of discovery. Every project begins with a question: what can only happen in a live room, shared between performers and audiences?
Since its founding, The Fool Volk has developed original plays, devised performances, and reimagined classical works. From 2023–2024, the company was a Resident Company at La MaMa Galleria, developing work within one of New York City’s most influential homes for experimental performance. The company later presented Harris Singer’s original play Take Me To Dollywood at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club.
The Fool Volk is currently developing a new generation of performances exploring prophecy, uncertainty, belief, identity, and the stories people create when facing the unknown. Upcoming projects include Prophets & Harbingers (a new theatrical work by Harris Singer); Johanna d’Arc! (a muscular riff on the classic); A new mariachi musical (by co-founder Sammy Rivas); and I Got 13 Lobotomies and I Feel Fine (A new solo-show by Sam Flynn and directed by Harris Singer).
We create opportunities for actors, designers, writers, musicians, and interdisciplinary artists to take risks, build ambitious worlds, and develop work through collaboration. Our goal is to build a lasting home for artists and audiences who believe theatre can be strange, generous, challenging, and deeply human.
Your support helps provide the time, space, resources, and artistic investment needed to bring these performances to life.
