The Four Roads” is the English equivalent to ‘Quadrivium”: the upper division of medieval education in liberal arts consisting of arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy. Although rooted in the medieval period, this name expands to the many disciplines of science beyond astronomy, and includes all styles of music and time periods, connecting the intersection of “The Four Roads” of curriculum to illuminate the interdependence of science and music. My current project is a recording of music that fuses together astronomy and jazz.
This project name envelopes my long creative work in connecting science with the arts. The recording will be on the theme of heavenly bodies, called 'Wanderer'. The musicians involved are some of the most high-profile jazz artists working today; the original arrangements will bring new life to some classic standards, all on the theme of the stars, planets and everything that is 'out there' in the universe. The album will encourage the mind to use music as a gateway to complex concepts such as who we are, why we are here and that, indeed, we are all 'star stuff'. mikiodo240607_2767_LR.jpg5.3 MB
