We are raising developmental funds for THE HEART WILL BREAK, written, and to be directed by, Anya Migdal. It is an independent feature film that is currently slated to go into production in the summer of 2027.
Set primarily in New York, THE HEART WILL BREAK follows the life of Frankie, a beautiful and talented violinist, from teenage prodigy, to conservatory student, to young single mother. It is an exploration of what it means to be an artist, of the sacrifices that come with motherhood, and most importantly—of the quest to find oneself. It is a coming-of-age story where the coming-of-age happens not at sixteen, but at thirty-six. It is a story of artistic self-discovery. It is a story about finally getting your sh!t together.
In 2002, sixteen-year-old Frankie falls in love with twenty-one-year-old Jerome, who breaks her heart. In 2008, just as her musical future looks bright, she rekindles her romance with Mateo, her professor’s protégé and rising star violinist. After experiencing a stunning upset on stage at a major competition, Frankie gives up her performance dreams to play second fiddle to her beau. In 2022, she is married to Mateo (with whom she shares a son, Charlie) but a divorce is imminent. Jerome reappears to charm his way back into her life against her better judgment. Will Frankie get her priorities straight? Will she rectify the follies of her youth? She might, but only if she can figure out who she is first.
