The HERA Odyssey takes us on a tour through the ages, combining both dance and women’s history with an individual storyline that weaves through the collective experience. It is a mythical and mystical coming-of-age tale in all its rawness, grace and beauty.
The show features a range of dance styles, each piece accompanied by a broad spectrum of music, costume, appearances by an ‘Oracle’ and other visual elements to create a layered, immersive experience to support the dance-driven narrative. It is an original evening-length dance play with a prologue and three Acts.
The individual storyline of HERA, our heroine, is a character we can all identify with, no matter our age, race or gender.
HERA's rite of passage into womanhood is also a journey to discovering herself and her full potential. We are not merely spectators, but companions of HERA as we travel with her, employing elements of Greek mythology, and universal themes of acceptance and the need to belong. We are left feeling empowered, and along with HERA…transformed.
My artistic goal for the show is to stimulate the audience on both an intellectual and visceral level for an aesthetic experience, while engaging the viewer’s imagination for the goal of empowering and uplifting.
The HERA Odyssey can be performed in its entirety, while excerpts of the show have been performed on location at museums, art events, schools, libraries, etc.
