About

Kid Admiral is a multidisciplinary platform where transformation occurs — rooted in the belief that storytelling is a portal that holds a mirror to reflect the times.

The Journey Is the Thing Tour is Kid Admiral's immersive community experience featuring HOMECOMING — a ritual gathering weaving together live music, film, installations, and crowd participation. Part family reunion, part block party, part healing experience — coming to Montgomery, Alabama.

The tour centers The Long Road Home, a documentary about my brother De'Andre, who passed away at the age of 22 after sustaining a traumatic brain injury in an automobile accident, and my family's journey through grief, loss, and healing. De'Andre was loved deeply by a community that still carries him — and the question his life left us with has never stopped echoing: what does it mean to live a meaningful life?

On January 11, Monroeville Mayor Charles Andrews officially proclaimed De'Andre McMillian Day at Kid Admiral's Inaugural Legacy & Awards Ceremony and premiere screening of The Long Road Home.

"De'Andre's memory continues to inspire diversity in the community and brings forth an awareness of Mental Health with dignity and grace."

Since that night, the film has screened in three major cities — Monroeville, Los Angeles, and San Diego — transforming rooms full of strangers into community.

Montgomery is next. We are raising $35,000 to bring this experience home to Alabama and ensure that every person who needs to be in that room can be there.

"I needed a place to transform what I was carrying alongside others. That's why I created The Journey Is The Thing Tour."

— Tamara McMillian, Founder of Kid Admiral
