The New Play Forum has been formed to bring new theater works and their development to Lower Fairfield County. With its inaugural season at the Stamford Center for the Arts, it plans to present three laboratory productions and two readings.
The lab productions will include a musical, a drama, and a comedy, and the readings will feature a musical and a play. In its second season, the New Play Forum plans to present its first full, mainstage productions, as well as more lab productions and readings.
The Greater Stamford area has a rich base of sophisticated theater goers who attend shows in New York City – and make for a prime potential audience to enjoy watching new works being developed locally. While several community theaters feature revivals of popular shows, the area lacks a theater company offering new plays.
By including receptions and opportunities to discuss the works with the creative teams, the New Play Forum plans to build a community among audience members, subscribers, and those creating the shows. We believe this community will provide an especially supportive community for playwrights. The location is close enough to New York City to tap a vast pool of theater talent, but sufficiently remote for a creative incubation process.
