Beyond the Veil of the Sorrow Songs is a chronicle of the journey of escaped slaves to Atlantic Canada and Quebec via the Underground Railroad. It then reaches forward to address the challenges of the African-Nova Scotia community today. Slave narratives, dance, spoken word, and song mix with West African drumming, Scots-Irish fiddling, media, and live visual artistry to provide a compelling witness, giving voice to the fortitude of persons long silenced and written out of history.
