About

The Renaissance Project presents a diverse slate of cinema-focused programming designed to foster film appreciation, education, and independent filmmaking. Free weekly screenings and discussions will feature arthouse, classic, and independent films, with programming drawn in part from the Janus Films collection. Quarterly workshops will provide hands-on instruction in filmmaking and production, covering subjects such as camera operation, lighting, 16mm filmmaking, and other aspects of the craft. The annual Junk Fest is a three-day curated program of outdoor live music and film screenings hosted at Frederick Junk Co., taking place alongside the city’s new Film and Music Festival each May. Together, these localized programs aim to create an accessible community space for experiencing, discussing, and learning about cinema. Complementing this public programming, the Renaissance Project’s Gear Access Award will provide two selected feature film projects each year with access to a complete camera production package, helping independent filmmakers overcome the equipment costs of bringing their work to life.
