The Rumpus publishes new pieces of original fiction, poetry, literary humor writing, comics, essays, and interviews with authors and artists. Our mostly volunteer-run magazine strives to be a platform for risk-taking voices and writing that might not find a home elsewhere. We lift up new voices alongside those of more established writers readers already know and love.
Often we are an emerging writer's first notable publication. And our diverse team of editors are primarily from outside of the NYC publishing establishment.
We believe that literature builds community—and if reading
The Rumpus makes you feel more connected, please help us keep the magazine going! Subscribe to
Letters in the Mail from authors and join us by becoming a monthly or yearly
Member. These programs along with donations through our fiscal sponsor, Fractured Atlas, are crucial to keep
The Rumpus going and bring us closer to sustainability. To us sustainability means, better pay for our contributors, compensation for at least a few staff members, and investing in the magazine's future. We need reader support to help us get there!
