Welcome to The Skeleton Rep(resents), an NYC-based new works development company with a mission to Explore Modern Myth. We not only bring myths from the past into the present, but more importantly, we also explore what is mythical about our own age.
Since TSR's founding in 2015, we have: ● Produced 11 full productions (8 of which went through our development process)
● Produced 3 series of fully-staged, ensemble-based original short plays focused around Skeleton Rep’s mission to explore modern myth and built for an ensemble ● Developed Curriculum and Facilitated a yearly, 9-month Artists-in-Residency Writers Group, including a 5 day/4 night retreat ● Mentored 4 Production Apprenticeships
The core of TSR is our development lab, known as the Salon Series (62 to date). Started in 2014, we gather to put on a fully staged on-book presentation of new work, which has gone through our development/feedback process. This work is often in that funny in-between space between readings and workshops, where it wants to be seen on its feet and with an audience to know where best to go next. After the work is shown, everyone is invited to stay for a party! These gatherings have led to countless collaborations, including many works that started as salon and went on to have full productions. During 2020, we adapted this format to suit Zoom, and intend to continue this presentation when working with playwrights based outside of NYC.
In addition to our evenings of development and short works, we also produce full-scale original works, often in collaboration with The Tank, a home for emerging artists. Our next production at the Tank will be in the new year (2025), GEORGIA AND THE BUTCH by Carolyn Gage.
We would love to continue our development programming after our run of Georgia and the Butch - and that's where you come in! Please consider playing your part in Exploring Modern Myth by supporting TSR with a donation, buying a ticket, or following us on socials!
Thanks for reading – we look forward to sharing more work with you!
