About

Theatre Beyond Broadway's (TBB) work operates through three interconnected pillars:

1. A Curated Review and Community Platform
In 2025, TBB reviewed nearly 200 shows, almost quadrupling our output from the previous year. We covered work across the New York area in traditional theatres, storefronts, basements, and repurposed venues, spanning both established institutions and emerging spaces. Our work helps audiences discover bold new voices and amplifies independent artists across the full theatrical ecosystem.

2. A Development and Production Pipeline
TBB is expanding into a more robust producing entity, creating a clear pipeline for the development, production, and touring of new work that might not otherwise find a home in traditional commercial spaces.

3. Artist Centered, Socially Engaged Work
Our projects focus on stories that interrogate identity, history, trauma, resilience, and survival, work that invites dialogue, reflection, and transformation for both artists and audiences.

Current and Ongoing Projects

Notes from a Narcissistic Negro and Other N Words - Written and performed by Elizabeth June, directed by Malini Singh McDonald (Two-Time Award Winning Show). A dramedy detailing the artist’s childhood, clergy sexual abuse, and cancer survival. Through songs, stories, spoken word, and stand up, the piece stands as a testament to her triumph over trauma. Next stop: Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Excavating My Family - Written and performed by Malini Singh McDonald, directed by Nick Radu Blackburn. A work in progress exploring identity, legacy, and resilience through the lens of Trinidadian history and ancestral DNA research.

The DNA Project - Written and performed by Alexandra de Suze, Nicole Jesson, Elizabeth June, and Malini Singh McDonald. An ensemble based work reflecting the artists’ personal excavation of familial lore and lineage, seeking to better understand their lives through an intergenerational lens.

Goals

1. Expand TBB into a sustainable, artist driven producing company with the infrastructure to support development, production, and touring of new work.

2. Continue producing and advancing TBB’s current slate of projects while incubating new work by independent artists.

3. Grow and strengthen TBB’s community platforms, including our website, social media, and editorial content, to further amplify underrepresented voices and connect artists with audiences.

TBB is committed to building an ecosystem where bold indie artists are seen, supported, sustained.
