About

The Weathering Project is an initiative that consists of two components: Weathering, the short film--an experiment with creating a visual interpretation of the scientific theory and research of Arline Geronimus; and a lecture series that addresses the impact of weathering across many aspects of a black woman’s life. Your support for this crowdfunding campaign will help us disseminate crucial knowledge and allow us to address health disparities more effectively.

This project is a culmination of my life’s work in film and education. As an artist, my work addresses social issues presented in the form of abstract expressionism. Abstract art gives me the freedom to create stories with elements that I can interpret however I choose, while simultaneously stimulating the creativity of the viewer. As an educator, my practice is rooted in andragogical principles, for this project specifically, the primary focus is problem-centered learning. I performed research to support how film can support and even enhance adult learning to complete my master’s degree in 2003.

Combined with the film, the lecture series will not only address the basics of weathering theory and its impact, but will explore potential strategies to mitigate weathering and reduce health disparities. Our plan is to offer lectures throughout the United States and potentially around the world beginning in the Spring of 2024. Details regarding the proposed topics can be requested by emailing joanna@jwomedia.com.

Thank you!
