The Welders are back. After a long and very real administrative hiatus, we’re getting ready for our first production from Welders 4.0 — Cake Eaters by Rebecca Dzida. This brand new play will premiere in Washington, DC in Fall 2025.
ABOUT THE PLAY — CAKE EATERS All Rex wants is to protect his family. On one side is a totalitarian government with no regard for its citizens. On the other side is a floundering revolution that desperately wants to topple the despotic monarchy. When Rex meets Yazzy, a young woman who is more than she appears, he unwittingly finds himself tangled in the intrigue spun on both sides of the fight. Now he must take control of the game before he becomes a pawn, but that's hard to do when Rex cannot decipher between what is or isn't real.
ABOUT THE WELDERS The Welders is a DC-based playwrights’ collective that provides an evolving, alternative platform for play development and production. Through our platform, we inspire and encourage each cohort of producing playwrights to:
Take risks and make bold leaps in exploring the craft of playwriting
Produce one performance of work created by each member playwright over the course of three years
Create significant, meaningful, direct engagement between artists and members of the community
Support future generations of DC-area playwrights, by passing on the organization and its resources to a new cohort of playwrights at the end of their tenure.
