About

Thinkery & Verse create smart, vivid stage-plays and films in NYC and around the world.

We seek to create classically inspired, politically aware stories that challenge us to be empowered, community-oriented citizens with a keen awareness of the high stakes of modern life. While our primary mission is to create new plays, one of our key creative methods is to create our stories in repertory with classic works, thereby challenging our writers and actors to achieve new heights in creativity and aesthetics.

People often ask us how we got the name 'Thinkery & Verse.' We just made it up. In ye ancient Athens, the ‘Thinkery’ was the fake name that the satirist Aristophanes gave to Socrates’ philosophy-machine in Clouds. And  ‘Verse’ is one of the forms that we use in our work to convey emotion, challenge twenty-first century clichés, and explore the psychology of those we are most likely to misunderstand. Thinkery & Verse. Theater and film for the mind.
