1) Healing through Harmony
There are individuals who are suffering from illness, loss of hope, poverty, and isolation. Music can be a powerful salve for loneliness, pain, and depression - and a beautiful harmony has the ability to transport someone, even for a little while. For senior citizens living in homes for the aged, people who are ill in hospitals or in hospice, people living in homeless shelters, or reentering society after having served time in prison, their moments of joy and comfort may be few and far between. Because these individuals don’t necessarily have the opportunity or the resources to get out and hear live music, Those Girls will bring it to them. Our goal is to bring smiles to faces and show them they are not forgotten - to help heal through harmony.
2) Education through Harmony
Singing with other people has a way of bringing people together. When individual voices come together to create a great chord, there is a bond that is formed among the singers that can’t be denied. Those Girls’ individual members have over 20 years of experience singing, and we’d like to share what we’ve learned with kids, teens and young adults who are either just starting to sing, or are ready to take their harmony singing to another level. In particular, because we are four women, we have a special interest in helping girls and young women gain confidence and a sense of togetherness through singing. Whether it’s working with already established groups and helping them hone their skills, or using singing to bring together individuals who may never have performed together in this way, Those Girls will work with schools, community groups, religious and non-profit organizations to create workshops that meet the needs of the group.
