Theatre is a collective of artists each working in their own niche to bring a full and realized story to life. It’s the ancient, thousands of years old, 3D entertainment. Theatre matters because life matters. Actors in a room, speaking words, in front of people. The play’s words can be spoken again, but the performance can never be duplicated. It’s like catching time in a bottle. An impossible task.
With theatre, we are doing our part to effect change, open dialogues, and to allow people to empathize with others. Actor, singer, and humanitarian, Harry Belafonte, tells a story about about actor Paul Robeson, who spoke to his acting class and said, “Actors are the gatekeepers of truth. Without us, the world does not know itself.” Theatre is a mirror that reflects society back upon itself. It holds society up and forces us to look, see, and feel.
Theatre changes the world. Sometimes on a large scale, but often it is the small regional theaters, like Three Crows, that effect the most change.
Theatre entertains, teaches, inspires, breaks hearts. Makes you cry, laugh, angry, think, feel, ache and smile. Although we are small, Three Crows changes the world one audience member at a time. We received an amazing audience member review for our second show, “...this is what storefront theatre should be!” She was exactly right. No matter how small the doses and increments, art matters. Theatre matters. Three Crows matters. Every show, every night, every rehearsal, I’m just grateful that we get the opportunity to perform for others and tell stories.
Three Crows is a small organization that has very little overhead. We operate on a pay-what-you-can ticketing model. Which means that our productions are accessible to all who want to experience the power and transformative power of theatre. Every dollar we raise goes right back into securing performance space, rehearsal space, performance rights, props, sets, costumes, etc. With your generous donations, Three Crows can continue to make art accessible to all.
