About

Thunder Perfect Mind is a magazine devoted to restoring the feminine face of the divine. We believe the Goddess and the Earth are one and the same. Not just in a metaphorical sense, as James Lovelock, founder of the Gaia hypothesis, conceptualized, but in a real way that our ancestors understood intimately. As animism anthropologist Luis Eduardo Luna recently told Harvard Divinity School, “There is a mind in nature. We must develop ethical relationships with that mind.” Due to a variety of destructive forces (Christianity, patriarchy, Rome, etc) our relationship with this mind has been severed – until now. The paradox of the present is that at the same time we are descending into a Dark Age (climate collapse, fascism, AI, etc), we are also emerging out of one (materialism, rationalism, secularism, etc). At a time when old paradigms are crumbling, we need new forms of media to respond. We are creating this magazine at a cultural moment when the #1 podcast in the U.S. is about autistic children who are allegedly telepathic. Whether they are or not, the American public is going into 2025 considering the idea that consciousness might be more like a distributed field we tune into, rather than something created by our individual brains. Slowly, the picture is coming into focus: we are a lot less separate than we imagined. Our job as writers and artists is to tell this new (old) story of interbeing and consciousness. In doing both, we accelerate our collective remembering. We are not “skin encapsulated egos,” (Alan Watts) but shimmering fractals of one harmonic whole. We owe an enormous debt to many indigenous lineages who have kept these embers burning. Still other hints were buried like seeds, waiting to reactivate at a particular time. Thunder Perfect Mind is one such seed. Found in a cache of Gnostic texts at Nag Hammadi in Egypt in 1947, “The Thunder, Perfect Mind,” is a nearly 2,000 year old poem where God speaks as “the whore and the holy one,” “the midwife and she who does not bear.” It is a mysterious text that has baffled scholars. Even now, its mere existence shocks and sends a shiver down the feminine spine: God as a woman?! Oh, but sister…. brother…..this used to be the norm. Thunder Perfect Mind is a magazine-shaped altar; a hollow bone through which her voice can thunder across the sands of time and through the minds of modern writers and artists.
