Tinderbox Poetry Journal is an online poetry journal with an eleven year publication history and contributor archive. We aim to publish four issues of poetry per year. Our goal is to uplift vibrant voices, and we aim to be a poet's first paid publication.
For nearly a decade we've paid our contributors $15. We'd love to raise enough money to pay our poets more, without increasing reading fees. We recognize the value of American letters, and in an ever-changing literary landscape, hope to maintain our archive as a resource for the public.
In addition, we feature reviews of new work published by independent presses. A bigger budget will allow us to pay reviewers a modest stipend for their generosity and time in highlighting new work by emerging writers.
Last funds also go toward keeping our website and newsletter free and available to the public. Funding pays for website hosting, cloud storage, our submission platform, and paying editors and readers a modest stipend for their time spent reading and evaluating work. It also allows us to travel and appear at literary conferences such as AWP, where we can promote our journal and meet new poets.
