Phoebe Potts is raising money to support a national tour of her hilarious and raw award winning, critically acclaimed, of the moment, Talmud informed, visually rich, woman centered, solo show. "Too Fat for China" is a hilarious, introspective, and poignant glimpse into one woman’s journey to motherhood - warts and all. Potts weaves a masterful and compelling narrative of the unavoidable trauma, tragedy, and commodification that surrounds the adoption industry, along with the groundswell of primal love -from both birth and chosen family - surrounding the process.
By bringing the show to seven cities that have black box theaters, rent free housing from friends and an existing network of local people, Potts hopes to build an audience and raise the profile of her work.

- attract a streaming service to film the show
- ingratiate herself to a network of theaters that would invite her back as part of their regular season for her next show.
Why small black box theaters?
Black box theaters are small and so cheaper to rent and easier to fill to capacity. Potts likes the intimate nature of small (packed!) theaters of 50-200 seats.
Why not just get booked by the theater?
Oh we are trying our best, I promise. However, theaters are cash strapped and understandably shy about booking an act that doesn't already have a big following. That's the point of this tour- to build a big honking following!
Why seven or more cities?
Potts has found that tickets sell through relationships and personal recommendations. Potts has pals in each of the seven cities*. This means a free place to stay (eliminating hotel costs) and a link to local networks through her friends and their colleagues.
