Too Fat for China's Seven Cities or More Tour

Phoebe Potts is raising money to support her Seven Cities or More Tour, the first-ever national tour of her award-winning solo show, Too Fat for China.

The goals of the Seven Cities or More Tour are to build a nation-wide audience for her work and to bring her show to the attention of theater owners, promotors, and producers from around the country. 

Her ultimate goals are to:

Funding will be used for travel, per diem, and marketing expenses. As Phoebe hits the big time, this and future productions will become  self-sustaining through show bookings. Our goal is to raise $60,000 to launch and run the tour over an 18 month period.

Potts has found that tickets sell through relationships and personal recommendations. Potts has pals in each of the seven cities*. This means a free place to stay (eliminating hotel costs) and a link to local networks through her friends and their colleagues. Black box theaters are small and so are cheaper to rent and easier to fill to capacity. Potts likes the intimate nature of small (packed!) theaters of 50-200 seats.

Too Fat for China is a hilarious, introspective, and poignant glimpse into one woman’s journey to motherhood—warts and all. Too Fat for China debuted in 2019 at the Gloucester Stage Company and has gone on to receive critical acclaim, prizes and full houses in Edinburgh, Scotland, Boston, and in solo show festivals in Provincetown, NYC and DC. Too Fat for China  shows the power of storytelling and grapples with what it means to be complicit in systems that exploit other people, even when we do it for love.
