Turnpike Gypsies is a comedy/drama about a family with a mother who is their sun – they revolve around her. But when she suffers from dissociative fugue – wandering, in and out of institutions – the family follows her. A daughter who is a track star, a son who is a pansexual high school shortstop and a father with questionable ethics travel at night to protect a cherished vinyl collection from warping in the heat of a Uhaul truck.

Turnpike Gypsies intends to lift the consciousness of people struggling to understand mental health issues, through shining a sympathetic light on a family that struggles to stay together as the matriarch of the family travels in and out of institutions. Through reality-based comedy, this story will raise awareness and compassion for a family wrapped in dynamics stemming from their fight for survival.
