We’re a NYC-based incubator of new and developing interdisciplinary art. We began in the fall of 2012 as a monthly new theater and performance festival, run by a group of theater makers discouraged by the expense of mounting work in New York City. From there we grew into a sprawling community centered around the Infinite Festival; a bimonthly show of new work featuring drag, solo performance, video, dance, music, plays, stand up comedy, and some things that defy description. Our community is diverse, smart, and funny, and committed to taking risks - a UC piece might not work, but it won't be boring!
Making work and surviving in New York City is only getting more difficult for early career artists, particularly artists who are not independently wealthy and do not receive institutional support. We want to be able to continue to provide a supportive, nurturing public platform for artists to develop new work without resorting to pay to play, and to provide high quality new work to audiences without having to charge for tickets. By working with Fractured Atlas, we're hoping to be able to cover the operating costs we need, as well as grow our organization to be able to more fully support our community.
As we enter 2020 we’re recommitting ourselves to our first love and largest piece of programming, the Infinite Festival, beefing up resources for Infinite Festival artists in ways that range from help with rehearsal space to professional photography and tech support to curated, thoughtful audience feedback. We’re also launching a new, more targeted mini-version of our beloved Blast Off Development Lab. These yearly funds break down as follows:
Infinite Festival $1,240
Summer Session: $650
Operations (printing, insurance, etc): $768
Total budget for 2020: $2,658 - or approximately $225/month
We're so proud of what artists have been able to accomplish with the help of Undiscovered Countries - pieces begun with have gone on to full productions at places such as Ars Nova, Dixon Place, Tom Noonan’s Paradise Factory, Theater for the New City, the Chicago Fringe Festival, and the PIT. They’ve grown into full length graphic novels, critically acclaimed web series, award winning solo shows and kick-ass rock bands. We're so excited about the new work our creators are making, and we're so massively thankful for the opportunity to help them do it. If you want to help young artists go where no one has gone before, come get involved!
