UP Theater establishes a professional, non-profit theater company in the Inwood section of Manhattan that presents new and challenging works of drama and comedy relevant to our Uptown neighborhood. UP is not afraid to be gritty, rambunctious, irreverent. UP will be for and by the community, taking advantage of the many theater artists who live among us; yet we also envision a theater that will be a destination for theatergoers from across the area, drawn by work of quality and passion.
UP's first production in May, 2011 was James Bosley's "ALL THE BEST INGREDIENTS" - a dramatic terrorist prison comedy. It was performed for a 2 week run in the ballroom at Church of The Good Shepherd in Inwood.
UP then produced THE CHALKBOARD TRILOGY by Nancy Nevarez: a cycle of plays on the challenge and dangers of teaching literacy in places where it is not always appreciated.
In Fall of 2012: the paranoid morality play, K COMMA JOSEPH by Kirby Fields.
June 5-16, 2013: " 4 " a program of four short plays, all set in one place, all in real time, all daring to ask the pertinent questions of today, all by Inwood playwrights
