WHO WE ARE

UR MEAN KATHLEEN is an NYC based producing company led by August Kiss Fegley and Katie Kunkel, a duo that has been making theatre since we joined forces in 2016. Our work tackles challenging and diverting narratives putting women at the center.

Our most recent production “tackles female agency and sex positivity with equal doses of comedy and showmanship” (Three Weeks Edinburgh). The stories we tell swing big, embracing the full spectrum of genres, from cabaret to burlesque to poetic drama. Last year we became award-winning playwright/producers for our vaudevillian western, SALOON GIRLS, bringing home the 2025 Derek Award for “Hidden Gem of the Fringe” and the Fringe Theater Award. Between the two of us, we've worked with Philadelphia Fringe Arts, Chautauqua Theatre Company, Syracuse Stage, The Tank NYC, and 59E59 Theaters, among others. Together we’ve produced theater in Pennsylvania, NYC, and abroad “that feels both period-authentic and urgently contemporary” (Three Weeks).

WHAT WE DO

In 2025, we premiered our very first show, SALOON GIRLS, at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and brought home 2 awards!

SALOON GIRLS is a vaudevillian dark comedy set in a 19th-century brothel in Cripple Creek Colorado, one of the most influential mining towns of the Great American West. The story unfolds in one room—the dressing room—where the painted ladies doll themselves up, debrief their evenings, and scheme to navigate a male-dominated, lawless land. Journey with us to the wild west and learn the bawdy and boisterous stories of these soiled doves, woven in a tapestry of Americana sing alongs and burlesque. Take a look!

This summer, we are premiering a BRAND NEW SHOW, The Body I Left in Susquehanna National Forest, also at Edinburgh Fringe.
