Vagrant Hearts is a finished documentary film — shot for five years with three Taos, New Mexico street artists, through the lens of working artists, addiction, recovery, and rebuilding a life through art. Emmy Award-winning cinematographer Ron Garcia called the film itself "the second-most intimate film I have ever seen."
The film is centered on Vagrant Heart, the community gallery that gave fifty-plus artists a home before its 2020 closure. An Apple-partnered filmmaker collective, We Make Movies, called it "the kind of place they'd want to make their headquarters" after running programs inside its walls.
It's the reason everything else here exists. We've already proven our concept for film promotion — before any funding, before a van, the Vagrant Hearts team ran a two-day guerrilla activation outside the Taos Film Festival, a community event with the people who made it. Earned media, a packed courtyard, a crowd that stayed. It worked.
Now we're ready to take that same model national. This is where support makes the difference: a wrapped van, operating funds, and the focus of time and effort solely upon the project — city by city, submitting everywhere and showing up regardless. The goal is a Vagrant Heart recognized across markets — a hub uplifting and promoting artists, filmmakers, and muralists beyond their local scene.
Growing alongside it is a mentorship initiative already in motion: director Geoffery Davis pairing emerging filmmakers with working artists, using everything he learned finishing his own film. Meet-ups are already running, with a goal of at least three artist/filmmaker documentaries a year. We're pressing forward with passion alone, and like the circuit, support extends its reach — more mentees, more finished work, more exposure for every artist who comes through it.
A larger goal, for those that are interested, is the revival of the Vagrant Heart Gallery itself as a Denver annex — this is the resounding request from those who watch the film.
Our eyes are set and we're ready to run. What's missing isn't vision or proof — it's the resources to transform a story into a brand that exists only to raise others up.
