About

We are currently accepting donations for the Memorial fund for Andrew Johns and the preservation of his work as a Fine Artist. We will be using all funds toward this project until further notice. To see the artwork of Andrew Johns: andrewjohnsart.com. His brief bio:

Andrew was a true renaissance man of the Arts. As an actor, he worked on Broadway and beyond, with artists such as Ralph Richardson & John Geilgud, Peter Ustinov, Brian Bedford and Raul Julia, and in recent years he garnered acclaim as the lead in the Cannes-nominated short film, ‘Give Up the Ghost’. But his favorite film/video experience was the series of shorts (over 20!) he wrote and performed with Ray Edelstein (YouTube channel: yacobsladder). As a playwright, he’s had well over 100 productions of his plays, two of which are published by Dramatists Play Service, and have received Off-Broadway productions, with Francis Sternhagen, Milo O’Shea and James Whitmore. He’s the recipient of an NEA Playwrighting Grant.

His work as a Fine Artist started with designing sets for theatres around the country and masks (The New Theatre, Vassar College), and progressed to paintings and sculptures, which he continued to create throughout his time on Earth. Much of his artwork is theatre-based, and has been displayed in theatres in NYC and Regionally. His notable murals include the entire Spring Street office of casting director Donna De Seta. His paintings are included in the Schiffer book, ‘Contemporary Painters’.

Re. Vampingo Productions:
Greetings! Vampingo Productions is a multi-faceted production company. A primary purpose of ours is to create and present theatre that focuses on environmental issues. Our original musical, ‘BUZZ, Son of a Bee…an actor’s life for me’ had a limited run of 9 performances. We partnered with 8 pollinator preservation organizations and raised funds for them. Representatives from several organizations came to the shows and spoke about their work in saving bees--they also distributed artisinal honey to the audience and provided information re. ways to get involved with saving bees and other pollinators.
Currently, we're developing the new musical,
Glamour & Grit, about inviting magic into one's life, balancing modern technology with Nature and Spirit, and finding family in whatever form they take. We recently presented work with Climate Change Theatre Action, Harlem Climate Caucus, Broadway Green Alliance, and The Women's Voices Theatre Festival.
