VEIL: Two Sisters* continues its exploration and adventures, invited recently to two locations in India with additional NY area venues in discussion. Featuring five dancers, video design, fabric and a ritual including creative movement workshop participants, VEIL reveals two sisters lured into a link between the earthly and heavenly realms. Moving the project into further development and performance requires additional research and funding.
Building on the enthusiastic reception of the March 2019 performances at University Settlement, the next iteration deepens the audience experience, when they are invited onstage upon the ending ritual's completion, to participate. Blending realistic and abstract gestures, combined with a layered video environment, VEIL becomes an enchanting poem, taking the audience through two sisters’ tenacious dream of connection. Offered guidance and grounding by a shifting chorus of three women, a poignant vision of our emotional and psychic lives emerges.
It has been exciting to receive support by an LMCC grant earlier this year. Funds for additional grant writing were contributed by a generous donor this fall. We are waiting to hear the outcome, and in the meantime are moving forward. Upcoming contributions will support booking consultations, research and the eventual hiring of a publicist.
The innovative Adishakti Theatre Arts-Laboratory for Theatre Art Research in southern India has invited VEIL to their stage. Choreographing a production of King Lear presented in their theatre 2017, I know the theatre, it is beautiful. Also dance scholar Arishya Sethi has invited the dance film VEIL to locations in New Delhi.
Several discussions are in process for NYC and area performances of VEIL. The four creative movement workshops, with a theme of forgiveness, will again accompany the performance. They received an enthusiastic response, and will continue free and open to the public because of funding support. Some participants join the performance!
As a Sponsored Artist with Fractured Atlas, all contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Donors will receive an original thank you note, and potential additional invitation. Please consider donating!
