Generating brave and equitable spaces for underrepresented voices, stories and action
About
Voices Amplified is an arts-activism initiative that generates places of story, cranking up the volume on under-represented and mis-represented voices in our communities. Creating space through the mediums of theatre performance and podcasting allows us to bring people together into a shared and intimate space to embrace difficult and challenging questions, celebrate unique journeys, and learn how to overcome personal and collective obstacles as we pave a path for change. MISSION:
Generating brave and equitable spaces for storytelling by voices historically underrepresented in dominant culture
THE GIRL PROJECT IS CHANGING THEIR NAME!
PLEASE ALLOW US TO INTRODUCE, VOICES AMPLIFIED! PivotStatement
At the foundation of our teaching we utilize intersectional feminist principles that look at the many forms of inequality and where they intersect and overlap. Through our work we have shared space with many underrepresented voices at these intersections. However, the name The Girl Project does not fully encompass everyone we have met at those intersections. As we play our part in the fight to accept and embrace more nuanced identities we must amplify all underrepresented voices that are forging a path for inclusion, representation and recognition of past harms. Voices Amplified will be our new mother-ship name but we will continue with all of our programming when we can safely gather in shared spaces again. While we can’t gather in public spaces, we can still be engaged collectively in an intimate space. So…we are launching a podcast! Look for the podcast Voices Amp'd coming in January 2021!
WE ARE BECOMING AN INDEPENDENT ORGANIZATION! The Girl Project has worked under the mission of multiple theatres in their educational programming. Now, as we fully embrace our own mission, we will move toward creating our own not-for-profit with the support of Fractured Atlas. With huge efforts toward fundraising, we must make paid seats at the table for a variety of underrepresented voices in order to reflect our work and the people in our community with whom we strive to do that work.
