What's Your Elephant

About

Niki Lopez is a Queer, Latinegras - interdisciplinary artist, curator and activist and graphic designer whose award-winning work has traveled as far as New York, California and New Orleans; and who has worked with such luminaries as CCH Pounder. "My representational work allows me to share and explore stories, symbols and concepts from ancient cultures and ideologies, as well as provoke thought as to the probability of life in other dimensions, multiple universes and galaxies, how they are all inter-connected with us here on planet earth".

For the past 10 years, Lopez has engaged the community to bring a culturally diverse experience of combining art, performance and community outreach with her month long, signature annual art shows. Lopez has been a resident of the artist community 1310 Gallery since 2008.

She was recently featured on the People Magazine Investigates: Cults series on the Investigation Discovery channel. There, Lopez shared her story of being raised in an abusive cult that thrived on secrecy, until she and other survivors broke their silence, which ultimately brought down the cult and its leader. This experience inspired her to create a space in her art to share her "elephant" and to passionately provide opportunities for others to do the same.

Lopez founded “What’s Your Elephant,” a movement that creates a safe space for people to use expressive arts. It includes visual and performing arts, creative community building, hands-on projects, workshops and events.

Other collboration projects include: Artists for Black Lives Matter collective. Artists for Black Lives Matter #a4blm is a space to express yourself creatively around issues pertaining to Black Lives Matter. She is a core team member, pre-visualization artist and executive producer of the 1310 Bandits, an award-winning women-lead team of visionary filmmakers creating stories that advocate consciousness, diversity and social responsibility.

Known for her community spirit and advocacy, Lopez has donated artwork for fundraising initiatives to support breast cancer awareness and help orphanages in Haiti and Rwanda.
In addition, Lopez runs her independent, award-winning Graphic Design company, Niki Lopez Creative.
