About

“The next renaissance of human culture will be the reconstruction of our natural world in our cities. Plants will be at the center of it all” -Thomas Rainer

The Wild Yards Project brings together a powerful team of Emmy-Award winning producers, directors and camera people working alongside esteemed botanists, biologists and native plant landscapers to generate media- documentary and tutorials- aimed at inspiring, educating and providing the resources for people to transform their lawns back into vibrant native plant and animal habitat.

There are 40 million acres of lawns in the US, making it the biggest “crop” in the country, and one of the most damaging. At the same time there only 4% pristine wilderness left in this country. This loss of habitat is creating massive species declines here in the US. By converting all or even some of our lawns to native habitat, we can make a staggering impact, and invite back in all the birds, bees, butterflies and plants our modern landscapes have pushed out. It’s simple, it’s positive and the impact is profound. One yard can save a species, but many yards will revitalize our world.

By bringing world-class storytellers together with some of the most accomplished plantsman in the US, we can are committed to bringing about a new era of wildness and stewardship.

And we need your help. We’re asking for donations to help us meet our annual budget of $65,000. This money will go toward media development aimed at powerfully changing the landscaping paradigm from lawns to habitat, nationwide, as well as educating, collaborating with, and amplifying local efforts. Help us tell this story and provide the tools to get it done.
