Hello, Arisael Rivera speaking, I'm the co-founder of Word To The People.
We have just finished up a run of our adaptation of Shakespeare's "As You Like It." It was adapted by Gavin Witt and directed by Arisael Rivera. This was a labor of love funded by Arisael Rivera, co-founder of Word To The People and produced by Word To The People and Altagracia Productions.
We rehearsed for 4 weeks and presented during the last weekend of September. We brought the show to several different venues in Hell's Kitchen, Jackie Robinson Park in Harlem and at Prospect Park in Brooklyn.
We'd love to do it again!
We are hard at work looking at creative endeavors for next year, including an in-person fundraising event, and can't wait to share these with you!
Our goal as a company is to produce at least one production like "As You Like It" every year.
This requires planning ahead in terms of venues and rehearsal spaces. It requires seeking funding both through grant writing and crowd funding. It requires getting the group of actors on board and then rehearsing and coming together with those actors to be able to put up the production.
While the locations may change, actors may change, the core principle remains. It's gathering an eclectic group of artists to put together a free Shakespeare show for our communities in the 5 boroughs of NYC. So what do you say, will you help us bring more plays to you?
THANK YOU!
