Xan Burley + Alex Springer have been collaborating as performers, choreographers, teachers, and arts administrators since 2008. Their work has been presented by Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out (2017 Research Fellows), Center for Performance Research (2016 Technical/Production Residency recipients), Danspace Project’s DraftWork series, Movement Research at the Judson Church, University Settlement (2013-14 Artists-in-Residence), Brooklyn Arts Exchange (2011 Space Grant), DanceNOW Joe’s Pub Festival (2011 Encore Challenge Winners), the 92Y, and Triskelion Arts, among others. In June 2018, the American Dance Festival will present their duet You being Me being You and the Eye as part of Coming Home: ADF Alumni Return. They have created work for many university dance departments and professional companies, most recently for Zenon Dance Company in Minneapolis, MN, and their choreography appears in the feature-length film Frances Ha (2013). Burley and Springer were members of Doug Varone and Dancers until 2017 and have performed extensively with other artists in NYC and elsewhere. They were honored to receive the 2015 Emerging Artist Award from their alma mater, the University of Michigan. In the Spring of 2018, they are happily busy teaching as Artists-in-Residence at UMD and caring for their newborn baby boy, Jasper.
