About

Unruly Grandeur is a trio of multidisciplinary artists located in Cleveland, OH. We have been selected to participate in “York Plays 2025: Presence, Endurance, and Community in Medieval Drama,” an international, collaborative effort to stage the fifty plays of the medieval York Corpus Christi Cycle in a single day, hosted by the University of Toronto. We are responsible for producing two of the fifty plays, Pageant 13, “Joseph’s Troubles about Mary,” and Pageant 31, “The Trial Before Herod.” We will be hiring twelve other Cleveland theater artists to join Unruly Grandeur. The two pageants will be rehearsed locally and performed first for Cleveland audiences, before traveling to Toronto for the one-day festival. This project will culminate in Cleveland artists performing at an international venue for an epic, once-in-a-lifetime theatrical event, in collaboration with sixteen other teams made up of hundreds of participants from across North America. The result will be a massive production that is at once new and old, playful and sacred, unified under a common project and wildly multivocal — all contradictions which were equally applicable to the many-handed medieval productions in the first place.
