Soprano and ministry leader Mary Bonhag pulls together a variety of collaborators including Ruth Cunningham (Anonymous 4) for this project celebrating the Divine Feminine as musically expressed through Mary Magdalene, a most important figure of early Christianity. Named "Apostle to the Apostles” by the Catholic Church after nearly 2,000 years of maligned representation, Mary Magdalene is now finding her rightful place alongside Jesus of Nazareth and being recognized as instrumental in continuing Jesus’ ministry after his crucifixion. A flowering of a deep multi-year study and collaborations, this album seeks to offer healing and beauty to those who listen reminding us all that we all have the Divine within . Medieval and contemporary chant feature prominently, as well as improvised settings of excerpts from The Gospel of Mary Magdalene and wordless incantations.
The album will cost approximately $29,000 to record in both Vermont and NYC. The money raised here will contribute towards hiring an exceptional recording engineer,
Teng Chen, producers Susan Botti and Mary Bonhag, paying artists (see below for the list of currently booked collaborators), venue rental, CD design and printing, and PR for its release, planned for 2027. I am so grateful for your support and belief in this project!
