About

168:01 is a touring exhibition and participatory project that uses the gallery, crowdsourcing and global collaboration to rebuild libraries across Iraq, providing books and resources requested by Iraqi art students.

The Phases of 168:01 - From The Gallery Into The Hands of Iraqi Artists

To date, we have sent more than 2000 books to the University of Baghdad, our first university partner and we've collected more than 4000 books through exhibitions and donations. With the support of project donors, we funded rebuilding the student reading hub at the University of Baghdad to create an updated learning facility. In 2020, we expanded our book collecting operation to partner with more Iraqi universities and cultural institutions, broadening our capacity to get books and resources into the hands of Iraqi artists.

When you donate to 168:01 through Fractured Atlas, you become a vital part of our global cohort, working in solidarity with Iraqis to rebuild Iraq as a vibrant, cultural capital. While exhibitions are the foundation of 168:01, what happens after are the processes that take the books from our international exhibition partners to our Iraqi university partners and into the hands of Iraqi artists.

These funds go to things like:
  • Purchasing additional books;
  • Moving, storing, and shipping books;
  • Translation expenses;
  • Administrative and Labor costs;
  • Customs expenses;
  • Impact Projects in Iraq.
