“And Water Brings Tomorrow” (formerly "Good Grief, Getting Closure") tells stories from today’s movement to close prisons and re-imagine what their buildings, economies and community relationships can become.
As 2020’s calls for abolishing mass incarceration fade from popular memory amidst a renewed tough-on-crime climate, “And Water Brings Tomorrow” shows ways that abolitionist work has grown nonetheless. Between visits to prisons that have been transformed into vibrant community centers, youth recreational facilities, science and business parks between scenes of vital grassroots campaigns to close prisons in California and around the nation, themes of grief, climate and water are woven throughout to consider what is either reckoned or erased in each prison’s repurposing.
Funds raised here will go to support a grassroots campaign of the film to bring screening events to community organizations and campaigns seeking to close down prisons and stop new ones from being built.
